Warren Buffett once wrote that value investing is like an inoculation, it either takes or it doesn’t. For me, it took early, and it took firmly. I went through a phase in high school where I read every biography I could get my hands on. By happenstance, I stumbled upon Roger Lowenstein’s work: Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist. I was instantly enthralled with the idea of value investing – that the price of a business could diverge significantly from the value of that business. I devoured everything I could find written by or on Warren Buffett. I then opened a brokerage account and began a lifelong passion for investing.

Warren Buffett is also credited with the phrase “accounting is the language of business”. After graduating from California State University, Long Beach, my first few jobs out of college were in accounting, a period during which I also worked my way through the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program, as well as began writing an investment blog which would later serve to double as my investing resume. During this period, I also developed a passion for writing – eventually culminating in my co-authoring and publishing of a book: Navigating the Street: A Better Approach to Investing. Prior to joining Brasada, I worked as Senior Equity Analyst at GCI Investors helping manage a $100mm concentrated equity portfolio.

My goal in life has always been to realize my potential and help others do the same. I take to heart the lesson of Charlie Munger that one should spend each day trying to be a little wiser than they were when they woke up. As such, I consider myself a lifelong learner – expanding my circle of competence with each passing day while maintaining a humbling awareness that what I don’t know will always outweigh what I do. I take great honor in being able to share with clients what I have learned through my writing, and I take even greater pride in being able to help them achieve their goals.

When I’m not analyzing businesses, you might find me reading a fantasy novel – most likely Lord of the Rings for the 100^th time.
